Ready and Waiting Let the Season start already!!!
I'll admit it, I'm ready to get rid of the sour taste and anger from the Wings losing the Cup to Gary Betman's bitch back in June. I'm ready to start the regular season, heck I've been ready since the start of training camp. Come Friday afternoon I'll be in front of a TV enjoying a pint and watching the Wings opener and as most baseball fans say about the start of the baseball season the start of the season brings hope to a fanbase of a team. In this case I know that unlike some teams the Wings will be in contention to win it all year long, and there is anticipation for what will unfold as the season starts. Enough of the talking heads on the preview shows and lets just drop the puck!!

2009-2010 Season Preview.
Going into the start of the 2009-2010 the Detroit Red Wings may look weaker by some but in all reality I believe that they will still be in the top half of the Western Conference Standings. Alot has been made out of the offensive output that left in Free Agency, Hossa's 40 goals are in Chicago, Hudler's 23 goals are in Russia and Samuelsson's 19 are in Vancouver. Yes that is alot of production but wasn't everyone saying the same thing after 2005-06 when Yzerman retired, Shannahan and Williams both left. They had players step up and fill the void in 06-07 and they will have players step up and contribute now.
FORWARDS
The Wings won't be as potent scoring wise as they were last year with the losses of the players mentioned earlier. But with the additions of Todd Bertuzzi and Jason Williams that should help. Look for a breakout year from Valterri Filppula who has the talent and with more ice time this season should help. Also look for a bounceback years from Tomas Holmstrom and Dan Cleary. Rookies Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkator should contibute this year as well.
DEFENCE
A bigger emphasis on Defence this year should cut down on the goals against. The defensive core is back, Lidstrom and Rafalski will anchor the offensive output from the blueline. Nick Kronwall and Brad Stuart man the physical side of the D Jonathan Ericsson will make the Defence that much better. Brett Lebda and Derek Meech are strictly depth players.
GOALTENDING
Chris Osgood who made up for a awful regular season with a Conn Smythe type playoff run has vowed to be better this year. I have a feeling that he will, the improved commitment to defence team wide should help as well. Osgood will end up getting 50-55 games and the rest will go to Jimmy Howard who has been waiting in the wings for the last few years.
OUTLOOK
The Wings should be better defensively which should offset the offensive losses in the offseason. The Wings should finish 3rd in the West and should be in contention for the Cup again this year. All the fun begins Friday afternoon in Sweeden against St.Louis.
